#MerrySMChristmas: My Family's Kind of Christmas

The most wonderful time of the year is really here! Christmas carols begin to play on the radio, and Christmas decorations begin to appear, as well as streets are now decorated with colorful lights, trees and lanterns.

My favorite part of Christmas is all of the special traditions our family does each year. My fondest memories as a Child revolves around the Christmas season.

In our family, me and my 2 younger siblings enjoys organizing the house so we usually go to SM City Lucena around mid or last week of November sometimes with our parents to find ornaments to fill in our timeless Christmas tree with Christmas balls, poinsettia, colored candy canes and gift box and of course a star for the tip of the tree. Also, this is the time that we find and pick items for our 'Kris Kringle' or 'Monito Monita' for our school (when were still a student). It is really hard to find gift items lower than P30 pesos right? Like for 'Something Yucky', 'Something Soft', or 'Something Long' haha but it is something to look forward every year as a student, it's nice that SM Supermalls have a wide range of gift selections, gift wrappers, ribbons and cards during holiday season.

It's also every year that I join White Christmas activity in our community through a non-gevernment organization where we feed and give noche buena items to those family that are are not capable of celebrating and enjoying Christmas. If your community doesn't have this kind of activity, you organize by yourself with the help from some of your kind-hearted friends, you may also want to give a bear of joy today via SM Cares. For just Php 200, you get to keep one bear and donate the other to children from various orphanages and charitable institutions through the SM Cares Program, a division of SM Foundation with Toy Kingdom.

And a week or two before Christmas day is grocery shopping time for Noche Buena. We normally prepare pancit canton for long life, macaroni salad, lumpiang shanghai, dumplings, roasted chicken, hamon, quezo de bola, refrigerator cake, fruit salad and of course spaghetti and cake for the kids because we celebrate Noche Buena mostly with our extended families but regardless of how luxurious or simple the feast we have, we believe that enjoying each family member’s company during the Noche Buena is more important than the sumptuous dishes being served on our table.

Then on Christmas Day, after attending mass and after our godchildrens, young relatives visit us for aguinaldos and gifts we go straight to SM Cinemas to watch the most anticipated movie entries participating for the annual 'Metro Manila Film Festival' which, for years, have been producing films which are shown nationwide and are being enjoyed by families.

Enjoy the holidays with whatever you can prepare for the family. The most important thing is the wholeness of the family, everybody is healthy, and there is love that grows strongly in your home. Merry Christmas!
