The DOJ also ordered the filing of serious illegal detention and grave coercion charges against the 22-year-old model, businessman Cedric Lee, his sister Bernice Lee, and their companions during Navarro's January 22 mauling at a condo in Taguig City namely Zimmer Raz, Jose Paulo Gregorio Calma, Ferdinand Guerrero, and Jed Fernandez.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has dismissed the rape complaint filed by Deniece Cornejo against comedian-host Vhong Navarro.
In a 42-page resolution, signed by Assistant Prosecutor Olivia Torrevillas, chief of the panel of prosecutors investigating the case, the DOJ found probable cause to file charges against Cornejo, Cedric, and the five others for allegedly violating Article 267 and Article 286 of the Revised Penal Code. The case has been filed before the Taguig Regional Trial Court.
Earlier, Lee said he and his companions beat up Navarro after they saw them attempting to rape Cornejo inside the latter's unit at Forbeswood Heights Condominium in Taguig City.
Cedric and Rance were supposed to fetch Cornejo on the night of January 22 when they heard somebody screaming from the unit where Cornejo was staying, according to Lee's statement.
Lee said the door to Cornejo's room was fortunately unlocked thus he and Rance were able to get inside where they allegedly caught Navarro on top of Cornejo.
But the DOJ resolution stated that, “It is extremely difficult to comprehend how such scenario of shouting, struggling and running to the lobby of the Forbeswood Heights condominium could have escaped the ears of the people in the neighboring units or in the halls of the condominium."
On Wednesday, Navarro got emotional after learning about the DOJ's decision.
"Gusto ko pong magpasalamat sa ating Panginoon. Ang dami ko pong gustong pasalamatan especially madlang people. Maraming maraming salamat sa mga naniwala, nagdasal, sa lahat po ng pagpapalakas ng loob," the actor-host said.
